12 Jul IS COMCAST TAKING OVER THE WORLD AND ARE WE LETTING THEM
WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY?
What is Net Neutrality and why do we care? Net neutrality allows for a fair fight to get your message or products out to the public. In January of 2014 the FCC changed the net neutrality rules that allowed all data to be treated equally. The final ruling will be at the end of the year.
The FCC ruled earlier in the year to allow Comcast and Verizon to have a fast lane and a slow lane. If you are a big company and can afford the fast lane, your content will get to the end users. If you can’t afford the fast lane, your content may not get to end users in a usable fashion. Imagine watching a movie from a small company that is not Net Flix and while you watch on your amazing 70 inch TV, the movie keeps buffering during the movie, that would not be a good end user experience. That is the kind of experience you could have if they don’t change the net neutrality rules, unless you use the content that you pay for with Comcast or Verizon. Or companies such as Net flix pays Comcast or Verizon the ransom to make sure their content makes it to their customer base in a usable fashion. There are many more implications, but that is just a simple example of what could happen.
